Over 200 senior bureaucrats,
service officers, legal luminaries and business leaders from India
will interact with 50 industry and government representatives from
the US to discuss in-depth issues relating to cyber security, IPR
and privacy on 18 and 19 April in New Delhi.
The occasion for this meeting
is the Indo-US Cyber Security Forum’s Legal Seminar. The seminar,
a unique government industry partnership, is jointly organized by
the National Security Council Secretariat of India (NSCS) and the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The seminar’s primary focus
is the legal aspects of cyber security, IPR and privacy and the
aim would be to showcase how far the Indian legal and judicial system
and enforcement agencies are geared towards addressing these issues
and how much more ground needs to be covered to achieve globally
acceptable standards.
The National Security Adviser
of India, M K Narayan, would deliver the keynote address on 18 April
and set the tone of the seminar. Some of the topics that would be
covered during the two days are: Cyber Laws and Indian Legal Environment,
Indo-US Cooperation in High Technology, Cyber Security and International
Law, Cyber crime control mechanisms, Legal Framework for E-Governance
and E-Commerce and Industry Resilience Issues.
Among the prominent speakers
from the US are, Howard Schmidt, Chief Security Strategist, US CERT;
Anthony Teelcucksingh, US Department of Justice and Joseph Alhadeff,
Chief Privacy Officer, Oracle. Europe is being represented by Gianluca
Esposito of the Council of Europe.
R K Raghavan, Former Director CBI; Ashok Dohare, IPS;
Pawan Duggal and Vakul Sharma Senior Advocates; N Srinivasan, Director
General CII; Lt. Gen. S S Mehta (retd.) Principal Advisor CII as
well as senior industry practitioners from Bharti, Microsoft, Verisign,
GTL Limited, SecureSynergy, Wipro Spectramind and others will speak
on the Indian experience.
The Indo-US Cyber Security Forum
is a part of the Indo-US High Technology Group a Public Private
Partnership between India and the US set up to discuss and implement
ways and means of increasing cooperation between the two countries
in high technology areas.
The Legal Seminar will be followed
by cyber forensic workshop on 20-21 April and CERT Seminar on 21-22
April under the Indo-US Cyber Security Forum.
