SecureSynergy's PatchEasy Finds Early Takers

By Amit Tripathi
Mumbai, January 22, 2004
Ranbaxy Labs has popped SecureSynergy's new PatchEasy pill, to eliminate security patch deployment headaches.

PatchEasy, in simple words, automates the process of checking new software patches (updates, security patches, bug fixes, version upgrades, service packs and signature updates), testing and downloading of patches, and patch deployment for PC's running Windows.

The service presently covers applications commonly found in large enterprises such as Windows operating systems and office productivity software, but does not include niche applications like engineering and animation.

Speaking to CXOtoday at the launch of PatchEasy, Anil Menon, Sr. VP, SecureSynergy, said, "In India this is the first solution available on patch management and the response so far is tremendous. Even before the official launch of PatchEasy, a total of 10,000 seats have already been sold in India and 3,000 in the Middle East."

PatchEasy is available in India at Rs. 500 per seat per year for 1,000 plus seats, and Rs. 600 per seat per year for less than 1,000 seats. Internationally, the product is available between US $18-24 per seat per year.

While PatchEasy is currently available only for the Windows platform, the company is already working on new versions of the software for Linux and Solaris. The next version of PatchEasy (Windows) will include enhanced features such as roll-back of patches.

How tedious is the patch fixing process?
