JP was the Vice President Operations at Nihar Infoways, India's first multilingual portal, and later the Vice President - Quality and Projects, at Praxid's Indian development centre, an ASP-ERP solution provider.

A graduate of the Madras Christian College, JP was commissioned into the Sikh regiment of the Indian Army in 1977; he has been an instructor in the Commando Wing of the Infantry School at Belgaum, held various prestigious staff and instructional appointments including, brigade major of an strike corps Infantry brigade, adjutant and instructor in the Indian Military Academy and Commanding officer of an Infantry Battalion in counter insurgency operations. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India.
